Donny Albrecht – Trumpet / All Brass Donny Albrecht is an active performer and instructor. He began his life in music almost 22 years ago in Hawaii. He went on to study at Berklee College of Music under Charlie Lewis, Lin Bivanio, and Tiger Okoshi. He participated in many of the school’s premier musical ensembles including the Tower of Power Ensemble, Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Rainbow Big Band and others. Upon leaving Berklee, Donny moved to Texas to study with famed lead trumpet teacher Jay Saunders at the University of North Texas. While at the University of North Texas, Donny became a fixture on the Dallas-Fort Worth music scene performing with many classical, jazz, and top 40 groups. While freelancing, Donny was the Brass Instructor and Assistant Jazz Band director at Centennial ISD as well as Frisco School of Music. Donny continued his musical studies in New York City at the Aaron Copland School of Music under Michael Philip Mossman. He also while in NYC studied with, Tony Kadleck of Manhattan School of Music and Nick Marchione of the Village Vanguard Orchestra. While in NYC Donny played on many musicals, recording sessions and freelanced throughout the NYC metro area. Upon graduating with his Master’s in Jazz Trumpet from the Aaron Copland School of Music, Donny went on to pursue his Doctor of Music degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Donny is currently in the final steps of earning his Doctorate under the direction and supervision of director Chip McNeill, Tito Carrillo, and Ronald Romm. While at the University of Illinois, Donny played lead trumpet in the Concert Jazz Band who were featured performers at the 2018 Jazz Education Network conference, and Latin Jazz Band who were finalists in the Notre Dame Latin Jazz Festival 2016-2018. Donny as first trumpet of the University of Illinois Trumpet Ensemble were semifinalists in the 2018 National Trumpet Competition. While in Illinois Donny co-directed and performed lead trumpet in the Iorn Post Jazz Orchestra. Donny also performed as principal trumpet in the Urbana Pops Orchestra for two seasons. Continuing his professional career in the San Francisco Bay Area, Donny is a freelance musician and educator who plays in a wide variety of contemporary musical settings, ranging from the Davis Chorale to musicals at the Missouri St. Theater. Donny currently teaches brass at the Vacaville Christian School, Reeder Music Academy, as well as serves as a sought-after clinician in the area. Donny has had the privilege of performing alongside the likes of Doc Severinsen, Ernie Watts, Jim Pugh, Joel Spencer, Chip Stephens, Chip McNeill, Tito Carrillo, Ron Bridgewater, Ronald Romm, Jeff Helgesen, Dennis Macrell, Michal Philip Mossman, Charlie Lewis, Wayne Nauss, Livingston Taylor, Blood Sweat and Tears, The Eagles, and many others.
